joins the Kentucky Biomedical Research Infrastructure Network Dr David Canning from the department of Biological Sciences has recently teamed up with faculty from the University of Louisville, the University of Kentucky and other Kentucky colleges
to successfully secure a grant to form the Kentucky Biomedical Research
Infrastructure Network (KBRIN). The grant of $6,000,000 from the National
Institutes of Health (NIH) will enhance Kentucky's infrastructure, research
capacity and student training in the biomedical sciences. A main focus area of the KBRIN will be to develop state-wide technology and training in bioinformatics This rapidly emerging area is best |
described
as the interfacing of computational and engineering technology with gene-related
research. The need for bioinformatics has arisen as biomedical scientists
are faced with vast amounts of new information due to rapid advances in
gene sequencing technology, silicon chip based gene identification techniques
and computational modeling of biochemical interactions. For MSU, funds
from the grant will be used to develop a bioinformatics core facility
in the department of Biological Sciences. This facility will contain the
latest equipment for gene-related research and provide technical support
for research projects by faculty and students. For more information on KBRIN contact Dr. David Canning at 270-762-2786 or by e-mail to: david.canning@murraystate.edu |
