Dr. Terry Derting Elected President of ACUBE

Dr. Terry Derting, Professor of Biology at Murray State University, has been elected President of the Association of College and University Biology Educator's (ACUBE) for 2003-2004. ACUBE is a national organization that emphasizes the innovations and creative solutions biology faculty have used to solve common problems in their teaching. The ACUBE annual meeting and peer-reviewed journal (Bioscene) provide two avenues for professional presentations about undergraduate teaching and learning and the free exchange of ideas to enhance student learning.

The association also encourages active participation in biological research by educators and students as a means of enhancing effective teaching. The executive officers work to bring the collective views of college and university faculty of the biological sciences to the attention of college and civil government adminstrations. Prior to her election as President, Dr. Derting has served as a member of the Steering Committee, the Editorial Review Committee, and Program Chair for ACUBE.
The theme of the 2004 annual meeting, which will be held at Wabash College, is Technology in Biology Education. Presentations and workshops will focus on scientific technology, including use of databases, bioinformatics, and modern innovations in equipment, as well as instructional technology. Faculty and graduate students interested in effective approaches to teaching and a friendly forum for discussing education issues are invited to attend.
