Dr. David White Appointed Editor of J-KAS

In January 2006 Dr. David White assumed the editorship of the Journal of the Kentucky Academy of Sciences. White is a Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, the Director of the Hancock Biological Station on Kentucky Lake (www.murraystate.edu/hbs), the Coordinator of Murray State's Center of Excellence for Reservoir Research (www.murraystate.edu/crr), and was the first recipient of Murray State's Distinguished Researcher award. He also serves as the Editor for The Organization of Biological Field Stations and was a past associate editor for several scientific journals.
The Journal of the Kentucky Academy of Sciences publishes research articles in disciplines that encompass a wide range of scientific research and study including Agriculture, Anthropology, Sociology, Botany, Microbiology, Cell and

Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Ecology and Environmental Science, Engineering, Geography, Geology, Health Sciences, Mathematics, Physics and Astronomy, Physiology and Biochemistry, Psychology, Science Education, and Zoology and Entomology.
Said Dr. White: "Long ago and far away when I was a doctoral student, my advisor Louis Krumholz was Editor of Wildlife Monographs. While I was there, he also took over as Editor of the Journal of the Kentucky Academy of Science (J-KAS). At least once a month a manuscript would appear on my desk with the note, "Check the science, check the grammar, check the references, return by Friday." I read both wonderful and awful manuscripts. More important, I learned to write, and that the best science will not be published unless one can write. Being elected Editor of J-KAS brings me full circle. I expect that manuscripts will start showing up on my graduate students' desks and that Louis might be pleased."
Dr. White can be reached in his office at 474-2272 or at David.White@MurrayState.edu.
