The MSU Regional Science Fair
Celebrates 30 years

Murray State University's Regional Science Fair will celebrate its 30th anniversary on Saturday, April 26, 2003. The fair will be held in Murray's Regional Special Events Center with more than 400 student projects expected to be on display. Since its inception, the fair has hosted more than 14,000 students in grades K - 8 from western Kentucky.

By designing and conducting experiments, students, working individually and in groups, are encouraged to learn more about science and mathematics. The fair provides these students an opportunity to gather with their peers and to
present the results of their work publicly. Students prepare visual displays for the fair and give oral presentations to a panel of judges. Activities such as these help students develop a positive attitude about science and mathematics and increase the likelihood that they will continue to study these topics in high school and college, ultimately pursuing careers in science related fields.
The fair is administered by a coordinator along with a steering committee consisting of one faculty member from each of the departments of Biology, Chemistry, Geosciences, Industrial and Engineering Technology, Mathematics and Statistics, and Physics and Engineering. A number of faculty, staff, and students from these departments in the College of Science, Engineering, and Technology contribute their time to help make the fair run smoothly.
