Michael Ramage Awarded Cisco Systems Grant

Murray State University's Center for Telecommunications Systems Management (TSM) and the Department of Industrial and Engineering Technology have been selected to receive a $60,000 equipment grant from Cisco Systems, Inc. The funds are through the Critical Infrastructure Assurance Group (CIAG) at Cisco Systems. The grant was a joint effort by MSU, Indiana University Purdue University - Indianapolis, Indiana University Purdue University - Fort Wayne, and Texas A&M - Commerce. Michael Ramage, Special Projects Coordinator for the Center for TSM, is the principal investigator for MSU.
     During the summer of 2003, Mr. Ramage took part in an 8-week program in Information Assurance Education through the Center for Education and Research in Information Assurance and Security at Purdue University. Participants in the program were selected through an application process and were chosen from universities all over the US. The grant came as a result of this program and the contacts made during the summer.
     This award will allow Murray State's Program of Distinction in TSM to further its emphasis in information security and assurance with additional equipment including firewalls, routers, and intrusion detection systems. The grant is part of an overall goal of meeting educational information security standards and becoming certified by the National Security Agency a Center for Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education.
     Mr. Ramage will be part of a panel discussion at the third annual Telecommunications and Information Technology Conference in Louisville on April 2nd, 2004. Titled "Implementing Security Standards into Technology Programs," the panel will discuss integrating governmental security standards into technology programs.
