Dr. Renee Fister
Receives
MSU CISR Presidential Award

Dr. K. Renee Fister has been awarded one of two MSU Center for Institutional Support of Research Presidential Awards for her research which involes mathematically determining the optimal treatment for a localized tumor using the body's natural immune system.

Dr. Fister, an associate professor of Mathematics and Statistics, received her B.A. from Transylvania

University in 1990, her M.S. from the University of Tennessee in 1992, and her Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee in 1996. She is married to Kenny Fister and together they have one precious child, Kristopher.
Dr. Fister is also completing work on the optimal way to harvest species in a predator-prey system in which the age of each species is important. For example, an older predator could have more success against a younger prey due to experience, or could have less success due to decreased mobility. Similarly an older prey could fare better or worse against a younger predator depending upon experience and mobility factors. This work is done so that the balance of the predator and the prey species is maintained in an equilibrium state.
