Telecommunications Systems Management Program Receives $300,000 Award

The U. S. Office of Education has awarded Murray State's Telecommunications Systems Management (TSM) program $300,000 to establish a Telecommunications Learning Center.
The TSM program offers a high quality interdisciplinary technical and business curriculum in the field of telecommunications systems. Both undergraduate and graduate programs include an array of business, technical, and computer courses. Graduates of the program are prepared to deal with accounting, marketing, management, financial, and policy issues related to telecommunications. Graduates are also well versed in technology issues including hardware components, system design, analysis, and security, database management, and network operating systems.

The new Telecommunications Learning Center will assist high schools with their information technology programs. The Center will feature a high-tech telecommunications laboratory that will help high school students and teachers obtain additional training in both the technical and business aspects of the telecommunications discipline. The Center and its programs will be developed during the 2002-03 academic year with the intent of announcing specific offerings for the summer of 2003. The Kentucky delegation of congressional representatives, especially Senators Bunning and McConnell, and Representative Whitfield, were instrumental in obtaining funding for the new Center.
