Whiteman Receives Regent's
Teaching Award

Howard Whiteman was selected as one of the 2002-2003 recipients of the Board of Regent's Teaching Excellence Award from the College of Science, Engineering and Technology.

Howard has consistently produced effective, challenging courses in the Department of Biological Sciences, including creation of a new course and area in Conservation Biology. In collaboration with numerous other CSET faculty, he has played a key role in the recent expansion of undergraduate research at Murray State. Howard implemented the first CSET Undergraduate Research Day, which has become encompassed by the much larger, university-wide Scholar's Week. He also serves as PI or Co-PI on several grants aimed at involving undergraduates in research, including the Collaborative Research at Undergraduate Institutions award from the National Science Foundation. This award has integrated students and faculty from Biological Sciences, Chemistry, and Geosciences to train undergraduate researchers while promoting high-quality, nationally-recognized research efforts.
