1. If I move to Kentucky and turn in a new permanent address, will my residency status for assessing fees change to in-state?

Address changes do not change residency status for fee assessment. See the policy on residency for more information.

2. What happens to my mail if I live on campus and then move off campus?

If you do not leave a forwarding address with the Housing Office, your mail will be returned to the sender. You also need to file an address change form with the Registrar’s Office.

Back to Questions

3. Can I change my sister’s address when I change mine?

Each address change form must be signed and submitted by the student named on the form.

4. Who has access to my addresses and phone numbers?

By definition under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), all addresses (including Email) and phone numbers are directory information. These are published in a telephone directory and are on information screens available to staff and faculty. Anyone requesting a specific person’s address or phone number can be given the information unless the student has requested that information be withheld from release to the public.

5. How often is the campus telephone directory printed, and where can I get one?

Telephone directories are printed once each academic year in July. These are for sale in the University Bookstore.

6. If I give Financial Aid my new address, does every office on campus get the information?

Address changes are only routed to multiple offices if an official MSU address change form is submitted to the Registrar’s Office. Other offices will receive the information based on your responses to the questions asked on the form.

7. Can all of my addresses be the same?

All addresses can be the same. However, it is important to remember how each address is used. If you are not always at the address given, important mailings may be late in reaching you.

8. As an international student, can I list a permanent or billing address in my home country?

The current address records do not have a field for "country." However, you may leave a request with the Registrar’s Office to have grades or a diploma mailed to an address in your home country
