Fall 2009 Calendar By Date

 
   

The University Calendar is subject to change as deemed necessary in the judgment of the university's administration.

 

July 16 Thursday Effective for the Fall 2009 Semester, MSU will no longer be billing statements. Billing statement email notices for Fall 2009 begin. Students have three weeks to make payment arrangements to prevent their schedules from being deleted.  Payment of Fall 2009 charges begin July 17.
August 7 Friday

PAYMENT DUE TODAY (Regardless of receipt of bill).

  New disenrollment (PURGE) process Disenrollment weekly.
August 10 Monday Late Registration fee of $25 begins.
August 14 Friday Faculty/Professional Staff brunch/meeting - 11:00a.m., Curris Center Ballroom.
August 15 Saturday Residential colleges open, 10 a.m. FOR NEW FRESHMEN and NEW TRANSFERS ONLY.
   GREAT BEGINNINGS
August 16 Sunday Residential colleges open at Noon for returning students.
August 19 Wednesday Classes begin on campus and off campus, including evening classes. Absences recorded.
     In-person fee payment, Sparks Hall, Cashier's Office, 2nd floor, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
August 21 Friday Last day to enroll in any first half-semester course. Class participation required on or before this date if class has begun.
     Last day to drop any first half-semester course with no grade and receive a 100% refund on tuition and fees for this session.
     Last day to change any first half-semester course from AUDIT to CREDIT.
August 25 Tuesday Last day to enroll in any regular full-semester course.
Class participation required  on or before this date if class has begun.
     Last day to drop any full-semester course with no grade.
     Last day to change any full-semester course from AUDIT to CREDIT.
     PAYMENT DUE TODAY FOR SEMESTER TUITION (Regardless of receipt of bill).
August 28 Friday Last day to drop any full-semester class or withdraw from ALL classes within the 80% refund period.
September 7 Monday Classes dismissed for Labor Day. All offices are closed.
September 8 Tuesday Classes resume 7:30 a.m.
September 11 Friday Master's degree applications for December 2009 graduation due in Graduate Admissions, Sparks Hall.
September 14 Monday Last day to drop any first half-semester course. Student will receive a grade of "W" (no penalty).
      Last day to change any first half-semester course from CREDIT to AUDIT. Permission form must have full signatures of student's advisor and course instructor and be submitted to the Registration Office by 4:30 p.m. for processing. Attendance is required for passing grade.

September 16

Wednesday Last day to remove grade of "X" received during last term enrolled. (See Undergraduate Bulletin.)

September 17

Thursday

Last day to drop any full-semester class or withdraw from ALL classes within the 50% refund period.
 September 18 Friday Last day to apply for review of residency classification for Fall 2009.
    Zero% refund begins for those who drop or withdraw from all classes.
October 2 Friday Classes dismissed at 7:30 a.m. for Fall Break.  Offices Open.
October 5 Monday Classes resume at 7:30 a.m.
October 8 Thursday Midterm grades due on instructor's MyGate no later than 3:00 p.m.
October 9 Friday Midterm grades available on student MyGate.
October 12 Monday First half-semester courses end.

  Last day to change any full-semester course from CREDIT to AUDIT. Permission form must have full signature of student's course instructor and be submitted to the Registration Office for processing by 4:30 p.m.
  Associate and baccalaureate degree applications for May 2010 graduation are due in the Registrar's Office.
 November 3 Tuesday The drop process is no longer available for ANY full-semester course, only complete withdrawal from the semester from ALL classes.  Students who officially withdraw from ALL classes November 3-24 will receive grades of "WP" or "WE", as assigned by instructors.
November 9 Monday Advance scheduling for Spring 2010 begins. MyGate advanced scheduling will be posted on the MyGate homepage. Students with an outstanding balance will have a financial hold on their account which will prevent them from scheduling
    Last day to drop any course taught only in second half-semester. Student will receive grade of "W" (no penalty).
    Last day to change any course taught only in second half of semester from CREDIT to AUDIT. Permission form must have full signature of student's course instructor and be submitted to the Registration Office for processing by 4:30 p.m. Attendance is required for audit grade.
November 19 Thursday Senior Breakfast for all seniors and graduate students graduating in December 2009.
November 24 Tuesday Last day to withdraw from all classes. If official withdrawal is completed November 3 - November 24, "WP" and "WE" grades are assigned by instructors.
November 25 Wednesday Classes dismissed for Thanksgiving holiday, 7:30 a.m.
November 30 Monday Classes resume, 7:30 a.m.
December 4 Friday Last day of classes.
    Last day to remove grade of "I" received during last term enrolled.

December 5 Saturday Final examinations begin. Grades due in Registration Office 48 hours after each examination with 3:00 p.m.,  December 14th, the absolute deadline.
December 11 Friday Final examinations end.
December 12 Saturday Commencement ceremonies at Regional Special Events Center, 10:00 a.m.
    Residence Halls close at Noon.
December 14 Monday Final Grades MUST be submitted through the instructor's MyGate no later than 4:00 p.m.
December 15 Tuesday Final Grades are available on the student's MyGate.
