John Robert Allbritten was born in Hanover County, Virginia the son of Thomas Albritton and Grizell Whitlock on December 6, 1747. He moved with his parents to Goochland County, Virginia in 1759 where he grew to maturity. He was married to Mary Meanly or Manly on April 14, 1768, the daughter of Isaac and Betty Dennett Manly of Goochland County, Vieginia. He entered Revolutionary War Service from Goochland County in 1774 by joining up with Captain George's Company, Colonel Charles Scott's Regiment of the Virginia Militia. He participated in the march on Williamsburg to search for the English Governor Dunsmore. He moved to The Union District of South Carolina in 1778. In 1779, he enlisted in Captain Joshua Pelmore's Company, Colonel Thomas Brandon's Regiment of South Carolina Troops. He was in the Battle of Cowpens and later while guarding prisoners captured at that battle, he was captured by Tories. He escaped from captivity in August 1781. After the war, he moved to Elbert County, Georgia then to Franklin County, Georgia. He applied for a Revolutionary War Pension from Franklin County on September 3, 1832 which was granted.
