TESTING TIPS

Before the test

  • Avoid cramming
  • Plan studying in short blocks of time several weeks before a test, not just a few days.
  • Map out a study schedule.
  • Eat healthy meals and get a good night's sleep before the test.
  • Don't study until right before test time, allot at least 30 minutes between studying and taking the test to relax.
  • Participate in class and keep up with the reading, even if the teacher covers the material in the book in class.
  • Sit at the front of the classroom and ask questions.
  • Talk to the professor if any material is unclear.
  • Find out the format of the test.

Test Day

  • Arrive early to the classroom, but not to study.  Don't hurry.

  • Don't talk to classmates about test material right before the test; it could confuse you more.

  • Sit in the same seat you usually sit in for class for contextual clues that might jog your memory.

  • Scan the whole test to determine which questions will require more time.

  • Read all directions and ask questions immediately if any are unclear.

  • Relax.

  • Answer easiest or shortest questions first or the questions on material you are likely to forget quickly.

  • Pace yourself.

  • Use test questions to stimulate your recall memory.
