James H. Richmond College
Description of the Coat of Arms
The coat of arms has been designed based upon research done by the student leadership team in Pogue Library. Through their research they discovered the Coat of Arms for the Duke of Richmond.
The different parts of the Coat of Arms:
The Lion - the lion is in the rampant stance signifying readiness to fight and protect. It was chosen with the philosophy that the Members of Richmond College will help each other to stand tall for the morals and ethics of our society and
protect each other from harm.
The Crown - the crown is the crown of the heir apparent (royalty). It was chosen with the philosophy that the Members of Richmond College are the heirs apparent of society.
The Murray State University Shield - the shield is the official emblem of the university - the shape chosen for the Richmond coat of arms. It's three stars symbolize hope, endeavor, achievement. Also, James H. Richmond was the third person to serve as President of the University.
Residential College Emblem - the official symbol for the Residential Colleges of Murray State University
The Motto - Reach - symbolizes that the members of Richmond College will always aspire to its moral and ethical code and to strive for each member's potential in life |
