Suraiya from Bangladesh - Current StudentHi! I am Suraiya Shammi from Bangladesh. I came here in Fall 2016. I am studying in the MS in Mass Communications/Public Relations program.

Why did you decide to study outside of your home country?

The desire for in depth knowledge was the trigger point & for which undeniably USA is the best choice. Also, I believe by studying in USA I will be able to gain global understanding which will help me to bloom into fullest potential.

Why did you choose to study Mass Communications/Public Relations?

As I have completed MBA with major in marketing, I found Public Relations to be very much interesting one to dive into. Also, by exploring the faculty and future career prospects, I became determined to study this area. Besides, this program is accredited by Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications, which makes it more lucrative to study.

What do you enjoy most about being a student at Murray State University?

Murray State University is a place of greenery where one can surely enjoy its natural beauty. Even its friendly environment will make you much comfortable to adopt USA life. In short: Life is Colorful in Murray!

What is your favorite thing about Murray State University?

My favorite thing includes Multicultural life & outstanding faculty. In fact I am getting to understand few languages which I believe can have great impact in my future development.

How is studying in the USA different than Bangladesh?

Differences include fewer class sizes, open discussions & real world practices which provide a new perspective to look around the world.

What do you plan to do after you graduate from Murray State University?

I am planning to gain hands on experience from a renowned PR firm. After that I will go for PHD in my field.

What would you tell students in Bangladesh who want to study in the US?

I would suggest “take the moment and make it for your future”. US is a land where hard work pays off. And, to gain competitive advantage there is no alternative for in depth learning.

Are you a member of any clubs or student organizations?

I worked with Murray State News & recently became the member of Academic Honor Society –Phi Kappa Phi.
