The Murray State University Women's Center is bringing the award-winning documentary by filmmaker Darryl Robers, America the Beautiful, to Murray State. The film has tremendous potential to make a mind-changing impact for many students, faculty and staff here at the university, as well as people in the community.

America the Beautiful is the must-see film of this decade, according to critics. The film focuses on how capitalism and the media affect society's obsession with beauty, especially in young women.

The plot follows a 12-year-old model as she strives to be a supermodel. The documentary is said to be an enlightening film that has an accurate perception of America's degrading obsession with beauty, but in a very humorous and tasteful manor. Surprisingly, the film has earned the support of numerous people in the fashion industry, including former Chief Editor of Seventeen Magazine, Atoosa Rubenstein. Critics are saying that this film is a powerful message that is important for everyone to hear. This impacting film has won several awards including 2007 Gold Plaque for Best Direction, the American Cinema Editors Award for Best Documentary editing, and several more.

The Women's Center at Murray State University is joining the empowering movement by raising awareness of this important message, promoting the film, and raising money for a screenplay at Murray State University.
