Counseling Short-term (1-8 sessions) counseling is available for individuals. Counseling may deal with a variety of personal and school related issues. All services are confidential. Resource Library Videos,
books, pamphlets, and other literature are available for research, writing
term papers, and for self-help. Resources
are related to women’s issues and contain a wide range of topics such
as gender equity, sexual harassment, relationship violence, sexual assault/rape,
substance abuse, eating disorders, physical and mental health, self-esteem,
and communication skills. Drop-in/Reading Room The Center provides a quiet social gathering for anyone on campus to utilize. Support & Skill-Building Groups Every semester the Center offers several groups geared to meet the needs of the campus. Previous groups include: assertiveness training and support groups for women of color, single parents, gay, lesbian & bisexuals, sexual assault survivors, adult children of dysfunctional families, and adults molested as children. Workshops & Programs Workshops & programs are offered throughout the year both on and off campus. Upon request, specialized programs will be developed. Past programs include: Celebrating Diversity, Peer Harassment, Sexual Coercion, Stress or Anger Management, Assertiveness, Dating Violence, Sexism and Conflict Resolution. Each fall a week is devoted to promoting a safer campus. There are many activities including the Clothesline Project, Take Back the Night, panels, invited speakers, and theatrical performances. Eating Disorders Awareness Week Each spring, the Center sponsors a week devoted to raising awareness and educating college students about body image issues and eating disorders. In celebrating the diversity of people, the Women’s Center has provided a page of information celebrating those differences that make up society. Domestic Violence/Dating Violence There are various forms of domestic/dating violence that takes place daily. The Women’s Center has put together an informational page that will help in understanding what exactly this type of abuse is. Of all the forms of harassment, sexual harassment is the most well-known. The Women’s Center developed a page regarding this form of harassment. Every March, the Center plans a month-long celebration of women’s history. Special forums, speakers, performances, discussions, and/or conferences are planned. |
