Minor in Fine Art Photography

The Minor in Fine Art Photography prepares students for several applications of fine art photography. This includes, but is not limited to, entry-level positions in industries which use photographic process and post-baccalaureate education in a creative academic field that require examples of creative work. The curriculum covers digital and film photography through all stages of the process such as planning, shooting, editing, manipulation, printing, screen based display, multimedia integration and use of text. Technical instruction includes hands on experience with professional portable and studio lighting equipment, 35mm to large format film cameras, scanning film and opaque materials, using large format printers, preparing images for gallery display, darkroom printing and film processing, a full range of digital editing software and introduction to 4D applications of photographic media. Students learn about ethics and legal considerations when producing photographic material as well as historical context related to fine art and cinema. Students are encouraged to apply their work toward the development of a unique portfolio, moving image work or intermedia project.

The curriculum includes coursework using industry standard hardware, software, cameras and lighting equipment.
