Professional Experience Prior to Murray State:

-Dr. Morris graduated from Murray State University, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Safety and Health Engineering and received a direct commission into the United States Navy in 1991.
-In January 1993, he reported to the USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73) as the Assistant Safety Officer. As the first IHO to be stationed on the GEORGE WASHINGTON, he developed a baseline IH survey, which was used as a template for Nimitz class carriers.
-In July 1995, he reported to Shore Intermediate Maintenance Activity (SIMA), Norfolk as the Safety Officer. As the first IH stationed at a SIMA, he established safety and environmental programs to meet state, local and federal requirements. During this tour, he earned his Master of Science degree in Environmental Health while attending evening classes at Old Dominion University.
-In August 1998, he was selected for Duty Under Instruction (DUINS) to obtain his Doctoral degree in Health Services.
-In 2003, he was awarded his Ph.D. in Health Services from Old Dominion University.
-In August 2001, Dr. Morris reported to President, Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV) as the lead NAVOSH inspector. He was responsible for assessing NAVOSH and Environmental programs for afloat forces. During this tour, he passed his board exams and became board certified in the comprehensive practice of Occupational Safety and Health Engineering.
-In August 2004, Dr. Morris reported to the Uniformed Services University as an Assistant Professor in the Preventive Medicine and Biometrics Department.
During his tour, he was the course director for the following courses: PMO 540 Environmental Health; PMO 555 Industrial Ventilation; PMO 553 IH Field Studies; and PMO 631 EOH Journal Club.
-In August 2007, Dr. Morris reported to the OPNAV staff as an action officer for medical planning and CBRNE issues. Within six months he was promoted to the Deputy Branch Head position for Antiterrorism for the Chief of Naval Operations. He was responsible for developing Navy policy for antiterrorism, pandemic influenza and physical security.
-In May 2009, Dr. Morris reported to the Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Engineering, Installations and Environment) as the Special Assistant for Safety and Industrial Hygiene. His main duties were developing policy, providing oversight and guidance on safety and health programs for the Department of the Navy.
