Presented by Murray State University in partnership with Purchase Area Chess, LLC and inspired by Dr. Wayne Bell
All K-12 students are invited to attend Murray State University Chess Camp. In partnership with Purchase Area Chess, LLC, under the direction of Tom Knight, these camps are inspired by the teachings and legacy of Dr. Wayne Bell, West Kentucky’s legendary chess educator and advocate. Campers will choose from two locations – Murray or Paducah – and from a morning session or afternoon session. The Chess Camps are open to all levels of chess experience, and all campers grades K-12. Campers will receive instruction based on their playing level and will be grouped with other players of similar skill/age.
Cost: $150 (Includes Instruction, supplies and camp t-shirt)
Campers will explore the history of the game, board/piece basics, the object/how to capture and strategy. Campers will gain the independence required by every player when competing, no matter if they’ve never played before or are experienced competitors. Campers will also learn about competition conduct, rankings and how to find opportunities for further play and competition. The schedule will consist of daily lessons, open chess play and the last two days of the week, campers will experience competition and tournament conduct practice.
