Whether or not to return to your home country is a decision that can only be made by you. Whatever you decide, we want to be able to provide you with the best advice at the time.

If you choose to return to your home country, check in with your DSO (Misty or Madison) to discuss your visa status. We will need to sign your I-20 for travel before you leave. Please check your I-20 before requesting us to sign it. Our signatures are good for one year from the date that it was signed. Please understand that you should be able to return for the fall semester as long as there are no travel restrictions at the time of your return. If you are an F-1 or J-1 student and decide to return home, please let our office know. Your DS-2019 does not need to be signed if your program ends in May. Signatures on the DS-2019 are valid for 6 months from the date signed.

Please keep in mind that international travel is constantly changing, and new travel restrictions could arise at any moment.

If you are an F-1 student graduating in May and would like to apply for OPT, you will need to email either Misty ( or Madison ( to start that process.

If you are an F-1 student who is needing to apply for CPT, you will need to email either Misty or Madison ( to determine eligibility. If it is deemed that you are eligible, one of the DSOs will let you know the proper paperwork and steps in the process by email and will coordinate the application completion.

If you are a current OPT student, please work with your employer to determine your status for employment at this time and moving forward. Please make sure to update Misty or Madison any time there are changes to your employment status or employer.

From the office of IDEA:

Illegal harassment and illegal discrimination as defined by the University's Non-Discrimination Statement provides for complaints to be filed in the Office of IDEA. Please report such incidents to the Office of IDEA, 103 Wells Hall, Murray, KY 42071, 270.809.3155,

Please know that incidents that involve bodily harm etc. should immediately be reported to the local police (off campus) on-campus police (if on campus) so that they can help discuss a safety plan. All members of the University community are encouraged to download the Livesafe app which also quickly connects to the on-campus police. If the individuals involved in a matter involving bias, illegal discrimination or illegal harassment (both the one allegedly harmed and the one allegedly causing harm) are MSU faculty, staff or students, then the University grievance procedures to address allegations of discrimination may be used to file an official complaint. If the matter involves student-to-student interactions, then the Student Disciplinary Procedures can be engaged.

Further, the City of Murray has a Human Rights Commission positioned to also hear complaints of alleged discrimination or hate within the City of Murray.

Additionally, processing such events can be tough.  Please know that for employees, the University offers its EAP (Employee Assistance Program) and for students, they have access to University Counseling to provide assistance.

The Office of IDEA welcomes a call from anyone impacted by illegal discrimination, illegal harassment or bias to discuss the experience and discuss possible options.
