DaKota Vincent was born in Greenville, Kentucky, and is a senior studying fine arts at Murray State University. He works at the Clara M. Eagle Gallery. With a focus in painting and drawing, his work revolves around bringing visual stimulus to ideas of conscious and subconscious decision-making. He has exhibited in shows such as the"Professional Blend" art exhibit in March 2017, the "Quixotic" OMAS show in April 2016 and the "Facade" OMAS show in April 2017. Vincent's drawings are also currently being exhibited in the advanced student show, "Art or Something like It," in the Mary Ed Mecoy Hall Gallery in Doyle Fine Arts. His work will also be featured in an upcoming senior painting exhibition in the spring of 2018.

Everything said or done could be distorted and inflated over time, building up to some interconnected reaction. Drawing from this experience, I want to direct my viewers’ attention to the little things that built up to create tension in a moment; the vague expectations and worries that interrupt the experience of space.

I form my drawings via natural subject matter while allowing incising geometry to upset the flow of the drawings’ surface. Each shape allows me to form a communication with my viewer, telling them a story by setting tone rather than a narrative.

I focus on imagery that in some way includes clouds or complex surfaces. Clouds being a symbol of constant change and uncontrollable movement, I feel them to be important to my work. Their undulating, curving and rolling form gives me a virtual play house to work through complex visual ideas and refined forms that this subject endorses.

My drawings focus on the internal “feeling” of a movement, physical sensation or state of being. The mind feels emotion and physical stimulus almost identically. These drawings are an exploration of the emotional and physical connections of small, ignoble actions.
