Special Project - Student Reporter Fund
Empowering a new generation of journalists. A collaborative project with WKMS and the Arthur J. Bauernfeind College of Business – Department of Journalism and Mass Communications to provide a critical experiential learning opportunity through a paid internship as a broadcast and digital reporter at WKMS. From researching the story, conducting interviews both on campus and on location, to expressing their findings in concise and accurate reporting both in writing and on-air, our student reporters do it all –– including having to meet deadlines. WKMS student reporters have been heard on NPR nationally over a dozen times in the past year! This is experiential learning at its finest.
Experiential learning is a key part of Murray State’s academic mission, and with your help, we can do even more to nurture this next generation of journalists. With just $20,000 each year, we can fully staff our WKMS newsroom with student reporters. The service they provide keeps our community and region informed –– from breaking news, to feature stories on industry, to event coverage throughout west Kentucky.
