Visitation Policy

Current Phase: Phase 2

COVID Visitation Policy

Visitation allows residents an opportunity to have guests, regardless of gender, to visit in their residential college and rooms. All guests who do not reside in their hall must register at the front desk and complete the guest/sign-in registration process. Guests must be signed out when leaving the building at any time. Guests who do not reside in the hall are not permitted to go further than the front lobby when they are not checked in.

Exceptions to visitation policies will only be granted in emergent circumstances by the Housing Professional staff. Violations of any portion of the visitation policy or students who infringe on the rights of the roommates/suitemates and/or disrupt the community environment will result in strict disciplinary action including, but not limited to, loss of visitation privileges.

Visitors or guests who are wanting to park on campus must register their car online by going to the Murray State Parking website and following the instructions for visitor registration.

In light of the ongoing pandemic and to protect the health and safety of our campus communities, the Visitation Policy, as outlined by the Housing Regulations found in the Student Life Handbook, has been modified as stated below.  As the health of our communities is monitored and the risk assessed, additional restrictions or a return to a previous phase may occur as necessary.  Guests will be expected to follow the face covering/ mask policy while in the buildings until they are inside the residents room.

  • Phase 1: Visitation in the residence halls will not be permitted for the two weeks following the opening of the halls. Provided that the return of students to campus does not result in a spike in COVID-19 cases, visitation in the halls will be permitted with Phase 2 restrictions.
  • Phase 2: Visitation will be permitted from 8 a.m to midnight each day.  Residents will be expected to escort their guests from the building prior to midnight and will not be permitted to check in guests until visitation resumes at 8 a.m. In the absence of extenuating circumstances, visitation will move into Phase 3 at a date to be determined.
  • Phase 3: Visitation will resume 24-hour guest admittance.  At this time, it is important to note that the pre-existing policy prohibiting overnight guests will be in effect 7 days per week. An overnight guest is defined as anyone who stays more than 6 hours between the hours of 9 p.m.-9 a.m. (6 hours total, not 6 consecutive hours). Those found in violation of this policy will be subject to disciplinary action.

Guidelines for visitation during Phase 2 and Phase 3

  • HR 5.5.1: Escorting guests- Visitors must be escorted by their hosting resident at all times, including when checking visitors out at the end of the visit. Residents are responsible for the actions of their guests for the entire duration of their visit.  This will include adherence to the mask policy in the halls, common area capacity limits, and all other regulations in place.
  • HR 5.5.2: Identification- Until further notice, visitation in halls will be restricted to current Murray State students. For the Fall 2020 semester, all students will receive a new Racer ID.  Visitors, as well as the resident signing in the visitor, are required to surrender their new Racer ID in order to go further than the front lobby of the building.  A state/government issued photo identification or a previous version of the Racer ID will not be accepted.
  • HR 5.5.3: Maximum number of guests- In order to ensure social distancing in residence hall rooms, each resident is limited to one guest at one time in the room.
  • HR 5.5.4: Minor Visitation- The only minors (those under the age of 18) permitted in the halls will be current Murray State students upon presentation of a current Racer ID.
  • HR 5.5.5: Overnight Guests/Cohabitation- Overnight visitation is suspended for the Fall 2020 semester unless further suspension is necessary based on Racer Restart and COVID-19 considerations.
  • HR 5.5.5.1: College Courts- Overnight visitation is permitted in College Courts. However, guests in College Courts shall not be permitted for more than 7 days consecutively or 10 days total within a one month period, as this constitutes cohabitation. As each College Courts apartment is self-contained, overnight visitation will not be further restricted in the College Courts complex.  However, College Courts residents are expected to comply with maximum guest limits, follow all Housing Regulations, and are responsible for the actions of their visitors.
