Undergraduate Creative Writing Programs
Murray State University's undergraduate creative writing programs, part of the Department of English and Philosophy and the College of Humanities and Fine Arts, combine workshop experience with courses in literature and form to give students a well-rounded and broad approach to craft.
Students can earn a minor, Bachelor of Arts, or Bachelor of Fine Arts. (We also offer a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing. For more information on our graduate program, see our Creative Writing Programs main page). Though the majority of our writing workshops are intended primarily for creative writing students, we welcome students from other areas permitted they discuss their plans with one of our faculty members in advance.
If you are considering one of our creative writing programs, we encourage you to contact our undergraduate creative writing program coordinator Prof. Squire Babcock for information and to visit the campus. Murray is a rural community located in the heart of the Jackson Purchase in western Kentucky, and provides an excellent setting to harness your creative energy. While here, you can engage in a variety of opportunities afforded students in the program, including the English Student Organization and Notations, Murray State's student-run literary magazine.
