Office of Multicultural Affairs
Mission Statement The mission of the Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) is to advocate and encourage a campus environment that embraces diversity and helps students grow personally and academically. Our programs and services are designed to address the leadership development, cultural competency, curricular and co-curricular needs of our multicultural student population, to help them adjust to campus life and enjoy a successful college career. The Office seeks to enhance the retention, success, and graduation rates for multicultural students at Murray State University. Over-arching Office Goal The over-arching goal for the Office of Multicultural Affairs is to close the gap in educational achievement, by bringing retention and graduation rates for multicultural students, specifically African American and Hispanic students in parity with those of the student body as a whole. Specific Associated Goal The Office of Multicultural Affairs main focus is in addressing retention, specifically addressing the achievement gap between African American students, Hispanic students and White Non-Hispanic students, as measured by retention and graduation rates. Initiatives are closely tied to student success and will continue to be emphasized by the following goals.
- Continue and expand programming efforts designed to assist multicultural students during their first year in college.
- Continue and expand programming efforts designed to provide access to academic and cultural support services, and mentoring support to multicultural students.
