Mission Statement
The mission of the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences is to provide quality undergraduate and graduate programs in multiple sub-disciplines of the earth and environmental sciences. Faculty and students engage in research that furthers our understanding of the earth's natural systems, cultural heritage and the interactive between man and nature, as well as meets the needs of the University, regional and global communities. The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences prepares students for careers or advanced study through a combination of instruction in geographic information science and technologies, hands-on experience in field and laboratory methods and opportunities to conduct faculty-mentored research. Student learning and faculty research are enhanced through the department’s partnerships with other Murray State University research and teaching facilities, including the Watershed Studies Institute, Mapping Applications and Resource Center (MARC) and Archaeology Laboratory.
