In addition to academic achievement scholarships and financial aid at the University level, the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences offers several scholarships for our students.

Eligibility requirements include:

  • Full-time junior or senior students
  • Students pursuing degrees in earth and environmental sciences
  • Overall GPA of 2.9 or above on a 4.0 scale

  • Full-time junior or senior students
  • Students pursuing degrees in geosciences
  • Recipient must take at least one geosciences course each semester of award
  • 3.0 GPA in geosciences coursework with a 2.85 GPA overall

  • Full-time incoming first-year student in geosciences
  • Must enroll in EES 101 during first semester
  • Renewable with a 2.5 overall GPA and a 3.0 geosciences GPA

  • First-time Murray State field school participant
  • Geosciences major or minor in the geosciences, anthropology or archaeology tracks
  • Must have completed ARC 105: Introduction to Archaeology
  • 3.0 geosciences GPA and 2.5 overall GPA
  • GPA must be maintained in semester prior to field school
  • Must submit a brief essay on need/merit for scholarship

Student clubs and professional societies.

There are plenty of ways to get involved with the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, ranging from the Earth and Environmental Sciences Club to the ASPRS and AIPG chapters. And that’s only the beginning.

Earth and Environmental Sciences Club is a departmental student organization for academic and social networking.  Earth and Environmental Sciences Club organizes field trips, movie nights, bake sales and competes in the Tennessee Geoconclave every year.

The American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing is a scientific association dedicated to advancing knowledge and improving understanding of mapping sciences. It also promotes the responsible applications of photogrammetry, remote sensing, geographic information systems (GIS) and supporting technologies.
