Humanities+ Series welcomes alumnus for final lecture on the creative arts for restoration and resilience

MURRAY, Ky. Murray State’s Humanities+ Program concludes its 2025-26 event series on Thursday, April 9 at 4 p.m. in Faculty Hall, room 208 with a guest lecture by Murray State alumnus Dr. Douglas Hester, ‘19, on “The Blank Page and Burnout: Creative Arts for Restoration and Resilience.” The event is free and open to the public.

Douglas Hester, MD, is an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He is also an alum of Murray State’s former Master of Fine Arts creative writing program and a published poet and editor.  Hester will speak on how creative practices can prevent or treat burnout, regardless of profession and stage of career.

This event is part of the Humanities+ Series, sponsored by Murray State’s College of Humanities and Fine Arts. The series explores how individuals flourish in today’s challenging world and fosters creative, intellectual and educational opportunities. It showcases the work and achievements of Murray State University faculty, students and alumni, as well as invited professionals in the arts, humanities, social and behavioral sciences. The series encompasses public lectures, teaching workshops and cultural events focused on cultivating the skills individuals need to live and learn well. All events are free and open to the public.
