MURRAY, Ky. — Murray State University’s Department of Art & Design and University Galleries are pleased to present IGNITION, recent paintings and drawings by Jason Stout. The works in the exhibit were selected from Stout’s “Cloud Composition Series” and will be on display through February 17 in the Clara M. Eagle Main Gallery. Stout will also give an artist talk about his work on Tuesday, February 9, at 5:30 p.m. via Zoom.

“Jason Stout’s ‘Cloud Composition Series’ deals with conflict and turbulence as well as notions of political strife,  instigators, misinformation, vices, struggle, and perceptions of living in the American South,” states T. Michael Martin, curator and director of University Galleries. “Stout’s work also incorporates intense color, reconfigures cultural icons, and plays with visual metaphors that analyze the narrative of existence in our modern time.”

Stout received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in studio art from the University of Tennessee at Martin in 2001 and a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2004. His work exists in several private and public collections, including the University of West Georgia, Jacksonville State University and the University of Tennessee at Martin. He is currently an associate professor of art at the University of Tennessee at Martin and is represented by REM gallery in San Antonio, Texas and Circuitous Succession Gallery in Memphis, Tennessee.

The Clara M. Eagle Galleries are open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public. Social distancing and mask protocols are required.
