Later that evening, a Presidential Investiture Gala held at Lovett Auditorium raised financial support for the Students First Patterson Family Scholarship Fund. Rooted in the Patterson family’s steadfast commitment to putting students first, this fund is designed to expand access to higher education and support student success. The scholarship will provide financial assistance to both first-time freshmen and continuing students across all years of study and academic majors. Over the course of the inauguration events, the new student scholarship fund had raised more than $45,000.
Patterson began his tenure as the 15th President of Murray State University on July 1, 2025. Within his first 120 days of office, he conducted the successful Racer Spirit: Listening and Learning Tour that encompassed more than 30 tour visits with Murray State students, faculty, staff, alumni, community leaders, K-12 and community college partners, business and industry stakeholders, and friends and supporters. Under Patterson’s leadership during the 2025-26 academic year, the University is experiencing a campus footprint which continues to expand with new facility projects underway, innovative academic programs being developed, increases in student retention metrics, and the establishment of a new scholarship fund that emerged from the listening tour, to support and enhance student success.
