MURRAY, Ky. — Murray State University hosted Kentucky TRIO Day 2026 on February 27–28, welcoming TRIO students and educators from across the Commonwealth for two days of academic competition, leadership development and campus engagement.
The event began Friday evening with the Upward Bound/Upward Bound Math Science (UB/UBMS) Scholars Bowl, followed by a full day of programming on Saturday. Students participated in a variety of academic competitions, including the UB/UBMS Scholars Bowl, Talent Search Academic Bowl, Talent Search Hi-Q, and the Bridge Building competition, all designed to promote teamwork, critical thinking and academic excellence.
Saturday’s schedule also featured multiple learning tracks. The Student Leadership Conference track included sessions on executive presence, leadership development, and personal finance, while the Kentucky TRIO Day track offered interactive experiences such as a student panel, college vision board activity, campus tour, and wellness activities. The event concluded with a closing ceremony in the Curris Center Ballroom, including a performance by EQ Blu and an awards presentation.
Murray State University’s TRIO Talent Search programs earned top honors in this year’s competitions, placing first in the Talent Search Academic Bowl (middle school division) and second in Talent Search Hi-Q. Three students were also named to the All-Star team for their outstanding individual performance.
The winning Academic Bowl team and All-Star students will advance to represent Murray State at the Southeastern Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel Regional Academic Competition in Atlanta on April 17–18.
Kentucky TRIO Day highlights the impact of TRIO programs in supporting first-generation and income-eligible students as they prepare for college and future careers. Murray State is proud to host this annual event and celebrate the success of TRIO students across the region.
