Biography

Gregory Scott Cook received his Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in drawing/printmaking from Murray State University in 2010, his Master of Fine Arts with an emphasis in printmaking/new media from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln in 2013, taught at the University of Texas - Arlington as an Assistant Professor of Visual Communication, where he was the Director of Studio:CreaTec, a hub for cross-disciplinary creative work and grant-supported research through which he was able to work with organizations including the North Central Texas Council of Governments and the Dallas/Fort-worth Aerospace Consortium to aid in the creation of interactive media, and contributed to successful NIH and NSF granting opportunities in the subjects of interactive peripheral and software design for gamifying rehabilitation and aiding neuroplasticity in stroke patients, and designing graphic systems for the exchange and communication of pharmaceutical information between doctor/patient for testing in a clinical environment. Alongside these projects, he also composed music and built the User Interface for a series of early-learning interactive applications and successfully deployed digital fabrication tools and workflows for his students at UTA. While in Texas, he co-founded a public-facing artists' studio/workshop/active press under the name MAKE GOOD, which has continued as a branch of his creative practice after his relocation. He has since happily returned to the Commonwealth of Kentucky, where he works as an Assistant Professor of Graphic Design and Co-Coordinator of the Graphic Design area within the Department of Art and Design at Murray State University.

A nationally and internationally exhibited artist and designer, Scott works in the media of Design, Print, Drawing, Audio Recording/Performance, and Installation—specializing in the creative use of emerging technology and the tools of digital fabrication (making robots talk, sing, shoot lasers, draw-on and grind-away at things).

Professor Cook has presented his work and visited with students in Trier, Germany, at Hochschule Trier; presented at inSEA in Daegu, South Korea; and taught an extended 5-week course in Bookbinding in residence in Florence, Italy, in conjunction with the Santa Reparata International School of Art. He is also focused on local/regional community-building and has contributed extensively to the creation of identity and branding materials for businesses that support the visual and performing arts.
