The JMC department is home to the student media. The Murray State News publishes every Friday during fall and spring semesters; The News is on the web at thenews.org. The JMC department is one of only 109 programs in the United States fully-accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC). In May 2004, the department received its most recent six-year reaccreditation. Currently the department is undergoing reaccreditation. A team of educators, administrators and media professionals visited campus in October 2009 and has recommended reaccreditation. The Council will vote to grant accreditation at its May 2010 meeting. Programs and majors are reviewed frequently and updated to reflect national academic and professional needs.
