Student Media and Organizations
We strongly encourage our students to work in student media, such as The Murray State News or MSU TV-11, or participate in our Ads Club or Public Relations Student Society of America.
These organizations are excellent ways to explore your career in more detail and build your portfolio.
Here is a look at each:
Ads Club
The Murray State Ads Club is an American Advertising Federation student chapter. The Ads Club activities help students practice what they learn in the classroom. The Ads Club participates in AAF's annual National Student Advertising Competition. Since Murray State's participation is a club activity, any student interested in advertising can work with the campaign. This gives the student an advantage when entering the job market.
Public Relations Student Society of America
The Public Relations Student Society of America, PRSSA, is open to students majoring in public relations or related fields. PRSSA meets twice a month, with a special program guest speaker as part of the agenda. Students have an opportunity to gain professional experience through PRSSA projects and to meet with practitioners during visits to meetings of the Bluegrass Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America in Louisville, sponsor of the Murray State chapter. Interested students should check the PRSSA bulletin board beside Wilson Hall, Room 214 for notices of meetings and activities.
MSU TV-11
MSU TV-11, the student cable station, airs local programming Monday through Thursday during the fall and spring semesters. Students who work with MSU TV-11 can gain experience as reporters, news writers, camera operators, audio operators and lighting technicians. The studios are located on the eighth floor of the Price Doyle Fine Arts Building. For more information call 270.809.3923.
The Murray State News
The Murray State News is the award-winning student newspaper published each Friday during the fall and spring semesters. Volunteer and paid staff positions are available. Paid staff members work from four to 20 hours per week at minimum wage. Positions are available in news and sports reporting, feature writing, photography, advertising sales, advertising design, graphics and cartoons. Orientation meetings are scheduled for those interested in working for The News. For more information call 270.809.4468 or stop by The News' office located in Wilson Hall, Room 111.
TheNews.org

Volunteer and paid staff positions are available in videography, production and website management. For more information call 270.809.4468 or stop by The News' office in Wilson Hall, Room 111.
