Minor in Data Analytics

The MINOR in DATA ANALYTICS is useful for those wanting to get a general understanding of the now-popular "Data Science" career path. The choice of courses gives students a sense of preparation needed for a more thorough immersion in Data Science. The knowledge domains span Computer Science, Statistics, Business and Information Systems. The list of classes are shown below. Please note that some of these classes may not be offered every term. So, please talk to the chair of the department and plan ahead.


CSC101 - Introduction to Problem Solving Using Computers [Pre-req: Math ACT score of at least 20 or MAT097 or higher],
CSC145 - Introduction to Programming I [Pre-req: CSC101 and MAT150 or equivalent],
CIS243 - Business Statistics I [Pre-req: CSC199 and MAT220 or MAT250],
CIS343 - Business Statistics II [Pre-req: CIS243 or MAT135 with a minimum grade of C and MAT220],
CIS407 - Advance Database Management Systems [Pre-req: CSC232/CSC145  and either CIS307/ACC308/consent of instructor],
CIS443 - Business Statistics III [Pre-req: CIS343 with a minimum grade of C],
CIS509 - Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence [Pre-req: Junior standing; CIS407],
CIS543 - Data Analysis & Modelling [Pre-req: CIS343].

* STA135 may be substituted in lieu of CIS243

Six hours must be upper level courses completed at Murray State University
