Crime Victim Advocate Certificate

Become an advocate for victims

Careers in victim advocacy play a vital role in both the justice system and the nonprofit community. No matter what area of the justice system you work in, you will likely interact with victims of crime. Our Crime Victim Advocate Certificate will help you build the skills and knowledge you need to support them with confidence and compassion.

How many courses are required to earn the certificate?

The Crime Victim Advocate Certificate is a three course program. The courses are designed to prepare you for careers focused on victim advocacy, as well as any role where you may work with victims (including many positions in criminal justice).

Will certificate course work count toward a degree?

Yes! Courses and credit hours in the certificate program count toward the Criminal Justice bachelor's degree! You can earn your Crime Victim Advocate Certificate as you work toward your degree in Criminal Justice at Murray State.

Can I be a victim advocate without a degree?

Yes, you can! The Crime Victim Advocate Certificate is approved by the National Advocate Credentialing Program (NACP), part of the National Organization for Victim Advocacy (NOVA). After you earn your certificate, you are eligible to apply for NACP's basic credential.
