Scholarships

For general Murray State University scholarship information please go to the Murray State University Scholarship Page.  Many scholarship opportunities are available to occupational safety and health students and range from general scholarships for any student who meets basic eligibility requirements to those sponsored by companies and individuals specifically targeted toward occupational safety and health students. The following is a list of scholarships awarded to students during the 2017-2018 academic year. Scholarship information for the 2018-2019 academic year will be updated as it is received.

 Brown-Forman Lomer Johnson Memorial Scholarship Due Date:  March 31, 2019

Brown-Forman presents a scholarship to a deserving student at the Governor’s Health and Safety Conference and Exposition. The scholarship honors Lomer Johnson, former Health, Safety, and Security Director at Brown-Forman. Click here for more information on the legacy of Mr. Johnson.
 
The $2,500 scholarship is presented annually to one (1) student and the individual can only receive the scholarship once. The Johnson family and Brown-Forman establish the criteria for the scholarship and select the recipient.
 
Applicants must:
  • Be an active junior, senior, or masters student in an occupational safety and health university program from an accredited university OSH degree program;
  • Carry a B or greater cumulative GPA;
  • Have financial need;
  • Submit a current resume; and
  • Submit an original essay no longer than one (1) page on your need and motivation of why you chose to become a safety and health professional.
The application deadline for the Brown-Forman Lomer Johnson Memorial Scholarship is March 31. Submit your resume and essay to James_Allsopp@b-f.com by March 31 to be considered.

 SESHA Scholarships through SESHA 2019 Annual Conference Student Poster Competition Due Date: February 15, 2019

 

SESHA 2019 Annual Conference Student Poster Competition through which SESHA awards scholarships to deserving students currently pursuing a degree related to Environmental Health and Safety. Details are available here - http://seshaonline.org/scholarships/studentscholarship.php .

Scholarships will be awarded through the SESHA Student Poster Competition to be held at the 2019 SESHA Annual Symposium in Scottsdale, AZ from 4/29/2019 to 5/3/2019.

SESHA 2019 Annual Conference Student Poster Competition:

Abstract - Any student seeking a degree in Environmental, Health and Safety or a related field can submit an abstract. For ex: Engineering, Public Health etc

Topics must be related to Environmental, Industrial Hygiene, Safety or Sustainability. Please see Rubric in next page to determine how topics will be weighted during judging. Abstract must contain a maximum of 100 words. Abstract must be submitted by 2/15/2019 to academics@seshaonline.org. 10 abstracts will be selected and students will be notified by 2/28/2019 if their abstract has been selected for the 2019 National SESHA Conference Poster Competition

Travel and Accommodation - Travel to the SESHA conference can be sponsored by the student’s University or by SESHA. Students will be reimbursed up to $750 for travel (air and ground transportation only) by SESHA upon submission of receipts for the travel costs. Accommodation will be sponsored by SESHA in the form of 3 Nights stay at Embassy Suites by Hilton in Scottsdale, AZ which is the conference location

Awards - 1st place $5000, 2nd place $3000, 3rd place $1000 and two Honorable Mention $500 awards will be presented during the Closing Ceremony on Thursday 5/2/2019.

Congress & Expo Scholarship
The NSC Congress & Expo is the world’s premier annual safety event, bringing together 15,000 safety, health, and environmental professionals from various industries. The 2019 NSC Congress & Expo will be held in San Diego from September 7-13, 2019. All scholarship recipients will be provided the opportunity to attend at no cost, with access to technical sessions, keynote addresses, an Expo of over 1,000 exhibitors, and networking events. This is an invaluable opportunity for scholarship recipients to meet and learn from thousands of safety and health professionals.
Women in Safety Scholarship
The Women in Safety Scholarship is a cash award of $5,000, renewable for up to four years. In addition to the monetary award to be used for educational purposes, the Women in Safety Scholarship recipients will be invited to attend the 2019 NSC Congress & Expo held in San Diego from September 7-13, 2019 at no cost.
Billy D. Young Scholarship
The NSC Construction & Utilities Division honors Billy D. Young – the first NSC Public Utilities Division chair – with this scholarship in his name. Given to one student per year who intends to pursue a career in the utilities industry, the Billy D. Young scholarship provides the winner the opportunity to attend the NSC Congress & Expo and a $2,000 award.
