Alumni Awards and Recognition

Distinguished Alumni Dinner 

The Office of Alumni Relations hosts the annual dinner each April to honor the alumni who have made a meaningful contribution to their profession on a local, state and national level. The Distinguished Alumni Award is the highest honor granted by the Murray State Alumni Association, recognizing alumni who have excelled personally and professionally. Previous Distinguished Alumni award recipients include Pulitzer Prize winning journalists and renowned authors, research scientists and physicians, executives, educators, military leaders and Emmy Award-winning broadcasters.

Nominations are accepted each year until Dec. 15. Complete the nomination form online.

Top 22 Under 40 

The Murray State University Alumni Association Young Alumni Council announces the Top 22 Under 40 class. We are honoring the most influential, innovative and inspiring Murray State alumni under the age of 40, who have distinguished themselves among their peers and continue to make a significant impact on the world. Why 22? Because everyone does the 40 thing! And, we want to pay tribute to nearly a century of difference-making since Murray State's founding in 1922. The 22 finalists were featured on the Murray State Young Alumni and Murray State University Alumni and Friends social media channels. Profiles of the class of 2021 are featured at the Young Alumni page. Nominations for 2024 will open in November. Distinguished Professor Award

Established in 1964, this student-nominated award recognizes an outstanding faculty member who has had a profound and positive influence on students, both inside and outside of the classroom. The Distinguished Professor is awarded in a surprise classroom visit, receives a $1,000 cash award, and leads the faculty processional at May commencement. The honoree also will have his or her name added to the Distinguished Professor plaque in Faculty Hall.
