Career Outlook

Most jobs in agribusiness involve working in some type of agricultural related business. Some examples of agribusiness related firms include farm supply and equipment stores, credit and lending institutions, grain companies, livestock processing firms, agricultural chemical sales, governmental support agencies and food manufacturing corporations. Agribusiness Economics is designed to help producers apply sound economic and management principles to the use of land, labor and capital in order to improve production and distribution of agricultural commodities and products. Students interested in agribusiness come to Murray State University from a variety of rural and urban backgrounds. They have a wide range of interests and career objectives, but they usually like to solve problems dealing with people and resources. Agribusiness Economics is a popular area of emphasis because it prepares students for a broad range of careers or graduate school.

Courses of Study

Students in agribusiness receive training in production agriculture courses such as animal science, crop science and mechanized agriculture, along with their specialty agribusiness courses. Some examples of Agribusiness Economics courses taught in the Hutson School of Agriculture are Agribusiness Management, Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Business Records, Agricultural Finance, Farm Management, Agricultural Marketing and Agricultural Policy. Students also take courses in computer applications, general accounting, economics and management. There are four emphasis areas available to allow students an opportunity for further specialization.

Career Outlook

The opportunities in agricultural systems technology are diverse and challenging. Skilled graduates are needed in areas of work related to agricultural structures, electronics/electrical power, precision agriculture/GPS, agricultural power, metal process, agricultural safety and food engineering/processing. A person with a degree in agricultural systems technology may be involved in one of a great number of agricultural careers, such as working for an agricultural equipment corporation, managing a machinery dealership, serving as a sales representative for an irrigation equipment company or as a farm manager. Each year the agriculture industry is becoming more technologically advanced. This creates a need for trained specialists to manage agricultural systems. This field of study is geared toward a student with an inquisitive mind that enjoys solving problems and testing new ideas.

Academic Highlights

The curriculum in Agricultural Systems Technology teaches the mechanical and physical principles that relate to the design, operation, maintenance and management of systems used in agriculture. A balanced selection of courses such as agricultural processing systems, agricultural buildings and construction, agricultural power systems, agriculture safety, agricultural electrification systems, precision agriculture/GPS and soil and water engineering incorporate theory and hands-on training that will permit graduates to enter into satisfying and rewarding careers.

This is a 2+2 program offered 100% online with the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS). The Bachelor of Science in Business online programs are available entirely online because of the transfer agreement between Murray State University and KCTCS. KCTCS offers all of the lower-level requirements for the degrees online. Students finish their degree online through Murray State. The Business Administration program prepares students for a variety of career opportunities. It provides students with a broad overall understanding of the different functional disciplines of business and prepares them for positions of responsibility in business organizations.

Description

This is a 2+2 program offered 100% online with the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS). The Bachelor of Science in Business degree with an area in Computer Information Systems is available entirely online because of the transfer agreement between Murray State University and KCTCS. KCTCS offers all of the lower-level requirements for the degrees online. Students finish their degree online through Murray State. The emphasis of the Computer Information Systems degree is on business computing. Students take all the business core classes (marketing, management, accounting) and enhance that education with a variety of programming courses commonly used in a wide variety of businesses. Inter-personal and group communication is stressed in most of the upper level classes. Students in this discipline are analysts – they analyze Business requirements, evaluate alternative technologies and present optimal solutions to Business managers. Their strength lies in their ability to apply state of the art technologies to help people become more productive.

This is a 2+2 program offered 100% online with the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS). The Bachelor of Science in CNM online program is made possible by a transfer agreement between Murray State University and the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS). The Associate of Applied Science in Information Technology (AAS-IT) degree, delivered online by KCTCS, prepares students for completion of the program through Murray State University. While the transfer agreement applies to traditional students attending classes on-campus, as well as to online students taking classes via the Internet, it allows for students to achieve their degree objective regardless of where they are located.

This degree will equip you to respond to the everyday human struggle as well as complex problems in today’s global society. You will gain the skills and knowledge necessary to work in this area as you learn how to become a professional human services worker.

Graduates of this program are proficient in human development and learning theories, human relation skills, leadership and group engagement, ethical decision making, cross cultural engagement, and the basic skills related to program evaluation and advocacy. Potential job positions include social services, child advocacy, human services direct care, family resources, family counselor, child protection, and corrections.

KCTCS offers all of the lower-level requirements for the degrees online. Students finish their degree online through Murray State. Murray State University’s Logistics and Supply Chain Management Area is a program that prepares individuals to manage and coordinate the efficient flow of materials, products and information within and among organizations.

According to the United States Department of Labor, the Logistics and Supply Chain Management profession is expected to grow from 5 – 10% between 2010 and 2020.

Interested in Healthcare Administration or Health Education and Promotion? The Public and Community Health Bachelor of Science degree option is available online! According to the U.S. Department of Labor, public and community health occupations are expected to generate as many as 2.3 million new jobs by 2024. This degree is interdisciplinary in nature and provides options that allow students to prepare for various careers in public and community health organizations, such as hospitals, governmental agencies, non-profits, and worksite wellness programs. The Public and Community Health program prepares students to sit for professional certifications/licensures as well as for graduate studies in related fields. There are two distinct tracks available online, each culminating with a semester long internship: Healthcare Administration and Health Education and Promotion.
